One  of  my  favorite  Rumi  poems,   very  approriate for me today. ~  kk

This being human is a guest-house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

Who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture.

Still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

Someone I know recently    made  a    beautiful  comment  about  my  hands.  This  post  was inspired  by them.  Thank  you,  JM.   ~kmk
“Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralysed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds’ wings.”
Rumi, The Essential Rumi

Good  words  for  a  New  Year .   ~  KMK

Time’s tailor has never made a robe for anyone
Without then slashing it to pieces.
See how the million fools of this world
Pay Satan heaps of gold for pain!
Don’t stretch out your legs on this earth-carpet,
It is a borrowed bed; fear that day
His messengers come to roll it up forever.
How can you go on gazing at the body’s dust?
Search out the Horseman of the Soul!
Train your vision with passion and longing,
And see the Horseman at the heart of this dust-storm!

– Jalal-ud-Din Rumi

This is one of  my Rumi favorites. It  usually comes to my mind when  something  “bad”,   has   happened.. to myself or someone else.  Today, I am thinking of   Russell  Henson,  whose   home was  destroyed   by  a tornado   yesterday.  He is age 52,  which  is a critical age for everyone….   because  something usually happens at that age that  is   life changing in a   big way. It could    something that can  be seen as either ” good”  or ”  bad”  or something that might  not  even cross that   person’s radar  at all.   But with some introspection,  they will get some insights on the   meaning of it.

This   line in  particular,  wow….

“Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably…..”

As the saying goes,  ” There,  but for the grace of  God ,  go I..”

So in the moment, I am   hoping  he  and  his family are   breathing deeply,  and  having the  courage and faith to continue on, despite this  event.

I  just realized,    that  April is   National Poetry   Month. Somehow this always sneaks   by me; well,  no more––  I am  putting it down on my calendar, as if it was  a  birthday,   bc…. it is important to me. So, I  am   8 days   behind and am going to   be   posting some of my favorites, etc. in the   next week in order to catch  up.  yay!

So today, it is all  about RUMI,  who I adore. Some of the things he wrote, I  have    not understood…   but that , in a sense, is a good thing,   because, it can reveal  mystery,  and   force my  brain to make   new  neural pathways….

Who gets up early to discover the moment light begins?
Who finds us here circling, bewildered, like atoms?
Who, like Jacob blind with grief and age,
smells the shirt of his lost son
and can see again?
Who lets a bucket down and brings up
a flowing prophet? Or like Moses goes for fire
and finds what burns inside the sunrise?

Jesus slips into a house to escape enemies,
and opens a door to the other world.
Solomon cuts open a fish, and there’s a gold ring.
Omar storms in to kill the prophet
and leaves with blessings.

But don’t be satisfied with stories, how things
have gone with others. Unfold
your own myth, so everyone will understand
the passage, We have opened you.

Start walking toward Shams. Your legs will get heavy
and tired. Then comes a moment of feeling
the wings you’ve grown, lifting.
